The Chinnor U13s stormed to an impressive win downing Henley Hawks in the quarter finals of the Oxfordshire Cup on Sunday. On a damp and blustery day down at the riverside in Henley the Chinnor boys were the quicker to adapt to the conditions and scored an early try through Nic Barker, converted by Alex Wheeldon. Henley hit back soon after following a mistake in the Chinnor defence but the Falcons soon re-established their dominance on the scoreboard with a second Nic Barker try. Again Henley hit back but Max Judge powered down the right wing after good work by the Chinnor forwards at the breakdown to score a well worked try and ensure that Chinnor went into the break with a 17-12 lead.
After a tight first half Chinnor piled on the pressure and crushed any lingering Henley resistance with some masterful rugby. Max Judge took a cross field kick from Connor Green for his second try. Shortly afterwards a well worked switch with Dominic Bradbrook Taylor allowed Ollie Wingfield a long range score and then straight from the kick off a smart passage of play started by Chinnor captain Guy Carter and Rory O Connor saw the ball move through several sets of hands with Dom BT eventually scoring in the corner.
Henley came back strongly for a period but great defensive work by Chinnor including shuddering tackles by Guy Carter and George Grose meant that Henley did not trouble the scoreboard. Near the end a smart kick over the defence and chase down by the hardworking Ross Bunsell crowned an impressive 12-39 victory to Chinnor and sent the vocal travelling support happily on their way to the bar. |
