From the Chairman:
Tewkesbury Walkers arrive at Chinnor RFC

Many of you will no doubt remember the tragic deaths of Bram and Chris Lane, who died while pumping out the clubhouse at Tewkesbury RFC, following last summer’s disastrous floods.

64-year-old Bram was the club treasurer, and a founder member, who’d served on the committee for many years. He’s been described as a ‘lynchpin of the community’. Chris, his son, who was in his twenties, played for the club.

On Wednesday, July the 25th 2007, they were among a dozen people who went to the flooded clubhouse, to assess the damage. After the others had left for the night, they stayed on, to pump out the cellar. They did not return home, the alarm was raised, and their bodies were found the following morning. They had been overcome by fumes.

They died, displaying the volunteer spirit which keeps sports clubs and other organisations going, across the country.

On Sunday, May the 4th, Gloucester are visiting Adams Park, in a Guinness Premiership match against Wasps. In memory of Bram and Chris, a group of supporters from both clubs will be setting off on a sponsored walk from Kingsholm to Wycombe on Tuesday, the 29th of April.

The walk has been organised by the same people who, last season, walked from Adams Park to Welford Road, Leicester, raising nearly £18,000 for the Matt Hampson Trust Fund.

The Lane family have nominated the Salvation Army and Breast Cancer Care as the charities they would like to benefit from our fundraising. There are two JustGiving sites -

The benefit of donating online is that all donations from UK taxpayers add Gift Aid of 28%.

If you prefer to make a donation by cheque, Gift Aid can still be added. You should enclose a note giving your full name and address, together with confirmation that you are a UK taxpayer, and that you are making a Gift Aid donation to the charity of your choice. If you are donating to both charities, you will need to make separate Gift Aid declarations for each charity.

Please make your cheque payable to your chosen charity, and send it to:

    Barney Burnham,
    London Wasps,
    Twyford Avenue Sports Ground,
    Twyford Avenue,
    Acton,
    London W3 9QA

The walkers will leave Kingsholm on the afternoon of Tuesday, April the 29th. The itinerary then is:

Wed., April 30th - Cheltenham to Stow-on-the-Wold RFC
Thur., May 1st - Stow to Chipping Norton RFC
Fri., May 2nd - Chipping Norton to Bicester RFC
Sat., May 3rd - Bicester to Chinnor RFC
Sun., May 4th - Chinnor RFC to Adams Park

The walkers will be staying at the clubs en route, and it is our intention to support this fundraising event at Chinnor

All donations gratefully received.

Thank you

Jeff Deighton
Club Chairman

Tewkesbury Walkers and Braai time - Saturday 3rd May

The Tewkesbury Walkers set off from Gloucester RFC on Tuesday afternoon and are expected at Chinnor RFC at about 6pm this Saturday
The family’s nominated charities are Breast Cancer and Salvation Army. It would be nice to see a few Chinnor donations!

Walter McGuicken and The McGuickettes will be firing up the braai at about 6pm. Apart from the walkers, other supporters of the walkers will also be in attendance and we want to give them all a good impression of Chinnor the Champions – so get along on Saturday night to give them a cheer

Bring the family and enjoy the food, have a few beers and extend some Chinnor style hospitality to fellow rugby fans who are fundraising for some worthwhile causes. Supporters of the walkers are bringing some spectacular raffle prizes and rumours are afoot about some “special” visitors
